"Saint" Mandela? Not So Fast!

Written by William F. Jasper

«There was never any question where the American media stood on the South African elections. They have been madly involved in a torrid love affair with Nelson Mandela and his "movement" at least since his release from prison in 1990. For many members of the fourth estate, the illicit relationship started long before. However, when it comes to describing the so-called "news coverage" of the run-up to the election and the election itself, words like "biased" and "slanted" don't begin to do justice. The Establishment press made the event into a blatant, shameless propagandafest, plain and simple.

For quantity, magnitude, and viciousness, the lies, inventions, distortions, shadings, twistings, and glaring omissions of the media's "Elect Mandela" campaign will be difficult to top. The campaign included the following elements:

• Continue the sanctification of Mandela and associates to establish their moral claim to the throne.

• Present a Mandela/ANC victory as a fait accompli by establishing them as the overwhelming favorites; flood the print and broadcast media with Mandela's image.

• Minimize or ignore any embarrassing Mandela/ANC actions, statements, or policies that might jeopardize their victory.

• Cover up or explain away the dominant influence of the South African Communist Party (SACP) in the ANC.

• Play down the ANC's continued terror campaigns against its opposition.

• Present F.W. de Klerk's National Party as the only significant and legitimate opposition. Present all other opposition parties as inconsequential or outright evil.

• Ignore or justify all illegal and unfair use of government force against ANC opposition.

• Report that the blatantly biased election commissions, monitors, and procedures are "impartial and fair."

• Psychologically prepare world opinion for the probable "necessity" of using international military force against "violent" and "obstructionist" opponents.

Invading the "Bop"

The ANC/SACP had long targeted the independent tribal homelands for takeover. During the first two weeks of March, some 40,000 to 50,000 ANC supporters were bused into the Bophuthatswana homeland. These were mostly Zulu - and Xhosa-speaking ANC people and clearly not Tswana residents. They started a week-long spree of rioting, arson, murder, and pillaging in order to justify sending in the new ANC-dominated National Peacekeeping Force to remove anti-communist President Lucas Mangope.

Yet, the Chicago Tribune called the invaders "pro-democracy demonstrators," "the people of Bophuthatswana," and "jubilant residents," and Bob Drogin of the Los Angeles Times wrote: "... the spontaneous protests spread quickly to a general anti-Mangope uprising." Bill Keller at the New York Times reported the Bop riots as a "popular uprising" that "appeared to be spontaneous and even disorganized." Newsweek's Richard Lacayo wrote that Mangope suffered "a stinging rebuke from his own people." It was much the same for the rest of the print and broadcast media.

Next, the campaign moved to the Ciskei homeland, where Brigadier Oupa J. Gqoso was overthrown in similar manner. Like Mangope, he was vilified in the American press as a corrupt stooge. No one in the media bothered to ask why General Bantu Holimisa, dictator of the Transkei homeland, or Brigadier Gabriel Ramushwana of the Venda homeland, both of whom came to power through ANC-supported military coups and cannot even offer a pretense of democratic legitimacy, were not also replaced. Perhaps it is because Transkei has long been a base for launching ANC terrorist attacks on surrounding farmers, villages, and cities. And Ramushwana has been so supportive of the revolution that the ANC/National Party coalition named him commander of the National Peacekeeping Force.

Following the "pacification" of Ciskei, top communist Joe Slovo remarked on March 23, "Two down, one to go." That "one to go" referred to Chief Buthelezi and King Goodwill Zwelithini of KwaZulu. The communists' plan for the Zulus was already out of the bag long before that, however. An ANC/SACP document, entitled Prepare the Anvil for the Coming Hammer, had already slipped out. It sets forth the ANC's strategy to destroy KwaZulu. The plan is almost identical to that used against the Bop and Ciskei. One part of the plan states:

Efforts must be made to persuade civil servants that job security and their pensions can only be secured by a people's government and not by tribal despots. Combined with mass action ... a situation of ungovernability could reproduce itself fairly rapidly .... It is important, however, for this crunch movement to have an appearance of spontaneity and popular support. Direct ANC involvement must be played down [Emphasis added].

The ANC/SACP needn't have worried; the press has been only too glad to "play down" the involvement - so much so that almost no one in America has even heard of the document. All most Americans know is that this Chief Buthelezi guy and his Inkatha Zulus are really bad news. They've had help in forming that opinion from a surfeit of nasty charges like that leveled by New York Times columnist Anthony Lewis in a March 30 piece entitled "Pride of Buthelezi Comes Before the Fall: He can do a lot of damage in the meantime." Lewis describes the Zulu chief as "a man undone by his overweening pride" and refers to his alleged "paranoid streak" and "his vanity." The Timesman condemns "armed Inkatha toughs" and "Inkatha hit squads" and, in virtually the same breath, offers homage to the late "great black leader, Robert Sobukwe" - the father of South African ultra-violence. Finally, he says, "Buthelezi's strength lies in violence. A few well-armed thugs can spread a lot of terror."

In the same vein, the Los Angeles Times offered up a heavy piece on April 10 by Michael Clough, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), entitled, "For Roots of South Africa's Violence, Look to Buthelezi." "The current battles are outgrowths of Buthelezi's continuing effort to carve out a political role for himself in a post-apartheid South Africa," said Clough. And he warned that "an attempt must be made to calm the Zulu passions that Buthelezi has aroused." He continues: "South Africans and the international community must come to terms with the fact that many Inkatha warlords are unlikely to compromise. Forcing them to accept the reality of a democratic South Africa will be a long, and probably violent process...." Yes, the UN may have to invade.

Selective Outrage

One of the most extraordinary coverups surrounds the murder of over 50 Inkatha Zulus by ANC snipers in broad daylight in the heart of Johannesburg's financial district. The outrage occurred on March 28 as thousands of Zulu demonstrators marched past Shell House, the former oil company headquarters that now serves as headquarters for the ANC. According to many media reports, "shots rang out" and it just happened that all of the dead and wounded were Zulus. No blame, just one of those things.

Richard Ellis, Johannesburg reporter for the Sunday Times of London, has provided some welcome balance to the blatant pro-ANC bias overwhelmingly displayed by most of the "liberal" international press corps. His story in the April 3 issue of the Times cast a much different — and more believable — light on the incident. According to Ellis, "Without warning, the ANC guards opened up with automatic weapons on the largely unarmed [Inkatha] crowd." Ellis quoted eyewitnesses who own or are employed in nearby shops who watched the ANC open fire without provocation. Tony Dias, working in his family's restaurant opposite the ANC headquarters, stated that the Inkatha marchers "were doing their own thing, they were not breaking anything or threatening anybody," when Mandela's thugs started shooting down on them from the upper floors of Shell House. "Later," reported Ellis, "the ANC would claim that the Zulus had been shot while attempting to storm their HQ, even though they were gunned down at the side of the building, far from any entrance."

There are other obvious problem's with the ANC's "self defense" explanation:

• If ANC shooters were simply trying to repel an invasion of their building, why did witnesses report seeing ANC security personnel running and shooting marchers in the street?

• Why did the ANC snipers shoot Zulus in the garden of the Johannesburg library and in the streets blocks away from Shell house — people who couldn't be considered a threat by any stretch of the imagination?

• Why did even a top ANC official at the scene acknowledge that the marchers had been killed "in cold blood"? (Bet you never heard about that from any of your "news" reports.) The Sunday Times reported that a "senior ANC politician," a woman on the organization's national executive council, who watched the carnage from the fourth floor of Shell House conceded the violence was ANC-instigated.

• Why did ANC thugs continue the slaughter long after the marchers dispersed? Ellis reported: "As the demonstration broke up in disarray, bands of marauding ANC youths began hunting down Zulus." He then reported in gruesome detail the stoning murder of a lone Zulu youth about 20 years old by some 20 ANC gangsters in a park near Shell House. A Sunday Times reporter and four photographers tried to protect and help the man but were overpowered by the killers. After ten minutes of pulverizing the hapless victim with rocks and kicks, reported Ellis, "Finally, a comrade came up and delivered the coup de grace: using two hands to hurl a jagged rock the size of a paving stone, he split the man's head like a pumpkin."

• What about the "rule of law" Mandela and his supporters continually prattle about? When police obtained a search warrant to look for weapons and gather evidence at Shell House, Mandela personally prevented the police from entering the building. This made clear some very important points, namely: Mandela and his thugs consider themselves above the law that they prescribe for others; and Mandela's forces at that time were already in de facto control of much of the government. The Shell House incident is especially important because it was not an incident in which the identity of the assailants is in question, or one which can be passed off as the work of some low-level "hot heads" acting on their own. It involved the ANC headquarters staff.

On April 18, just a little over a week before the election, another incident reemphasized these same points. It came to light that five Inkatha supporters (four men and a boy) were imprisoned in a torture cell in one of the ANC's buildings in the middle of downtown Johannesburg. One of the men had escaped and brought police back to free his captive cohorts. It was obvious the cell couldn't have been constructed and the torture operations carried out without official ANC approval, but the ANC was allowed to brush the scandal aside with a mere pledge to "investigate." And the media "watchdogs" were perfectly content to drop the story. Had the roles been reversed -- had ANC comrades been found tortured in an IFP cell — is there any doubt that the press would have made it a page-one event for days or weeks, demanding an international investigation?

"Free and Fair" Elections

When it came to the election process and the elections themselves, the international press corps again showed an amazing lack of curiosity. A host of "imbalances" and "irregularities" were given short shrift, if noticed at all, such as:

• Judge Johann Kriegler, chairman of the highly-touted "impartial" Independent Electoral Commission, is a founding member of the left-wing Lawyers for Human Rights and an ANC supporter. The rest of the commission was weighted overwhelmingly toward the ANC and the National Party

• Many election monitors at polling centers openly wore ANC pins and hats and "coached" voters.

• Heavily armed "National Peacekeepers" at some IFP strongholds scared off many voters.

• Inkatha Freedom Party stickers were left off of hundreds of thousands of ballots.

• Many polling booths were left closed resulting in tens of thousands being unable to vote.

• There were numerous reports of ballot boxes being tampered with, and reports of young ANC children voting, using obviously fraudulent documents.

With a few telephone calls to various points throughout South Africa, The New American was able to cross check and make a preliminary confirmation of many of these charges. But the major prostitute press was in a hurry to pronounce the elections "free and fair."

Final Benediction

To add a final benediction on the election, the press turned to Mandela's old comrade, Bishop Desmond Tutu. The Red Bishop basked in the massive media glow on election day. The New York Times' lead editorial for April 30, "South Africa, Reborn," quoted the blissful clergyman on the joy of casting his vote for the new ANC/SACP regime: "It's an incredible experience — like falling in love."

Christopher Matthews, Washington bureau chief of the San Francisco Examiner, provided a May 1 op-ed column from Cape Town entitled "The Prayers of Desmond Tutu." "For Tutu, the man of God, Wednesday, April 27, 1994, would be a day of deep religious significance, a day of transfiguration for the blacks of South Africa." Before going to vote, said Matthews, Tutu prayed in his private chapel and "asked God to transfigure those right-wing whites who were trying to stop the South African elections with terrorism: 'We pray that you turn the hearts of those who want to use evil methods.'"

Yes, this is the same good bishop who has been steadfastly unable to direct the same concern and energy toward converting his terrorist ANC comrades from their evil methods. The same saintly cleric who said, "I think the West, for my part, can go to hell." The same "man of God" who, in a 1979 speech, said, "I am a socialist — I detest capitalism. Capitalism is exploitative and I cannot stand that." And who, in 1984 said: "What I know is that if the Russians were to come to South Africa today, then most blacks who reject communism as atheistic and materialistic would welcome them as saviours." The same "Reverend" Tutu who has had kind words for Red China, Cuba, and every other communist dictatorship and terrorist "liberation movement," and who once boasted, "I have never hidden the fact that I meet with the leaders of the liberation movement when I go abroad."

Accompanying the Matthews piece was an illustration of the praying Tutu, head bowed reverently, his lips touching his folded hands. Matthews continued: "Now came the chase.... He could not wait to cast his vote. 'He prays three times a day,' American divinity student Michael Battle explained as we raced to catch up with the bishop."

The radical prelate's saintliness thus established once again, his support for the ANC is presented as the ultimate imprimatur of the "new order" of Mandela. We shall see if it be the heavenly order promised».

«Before being sanitized by a “ghostwriter” who now works in the Obama administration, the recently released original manuscript of South African revolutionary Nelson Mandela’s autobiography exposed the widely celebrated figure as a violent enemy of “democracy.” The first Long Walk to Freedom manuscript also reveals Mandela’s little-known support of violence and terror to advance communism. Largely ignored thus far, the document paints a picture of Mandela that is entirely at odds with the myths of a peace-loving political prisoner propagated by the establishment, communists, and the Western media.

After the revolutionary’s death, the ruling African National Congress and its South African Communist Party coalition partner both released statements officially confirming what had long been suspected by credible analysts. Mandela was not only a communist, he was a member of the Soviet-backed party’s decision-making Central Committee. With the release early this year of the communist leader’s unedited Long Walk to Freedom autobiography, even his most ardent supporters may have trouble defending many of Mandela’s violent and radical views.

“Unquestionably, my sympathies lay with Cuba [during the 1962 Soviet missile crisis],” Mandela wrote in the original, expressing fervent support for one of the most ruthless mass-murdering communist autocracies to ever plague humanity. “The ability of a small state to defend its independence demonstrates in no uncertain terms the superiority of socialism over capitalism.” In another excerpt from the heretofore unreleased version, Mandela said he considered the U.S. brand of “imperialism” to be “the most loathsome and contemptible.”

On the Marxist principle of “dialectical materialism” — a key foundation of every murderous communist regime’s terror — Mandela said: “I embraced it without hesitation.” The newly unveiled document also confirmed again that despite popular myths about Mandela remaining a “peaceful” and “moderate” activist until the 1960 Sharpeville massacre, he had actually been plotting violent revolution since at least 1953, perhaps even earlier.

In his unsanitized memoirs, for example, the revolutionary reveals that he sent a “comrade” to seek weapons and support for the then-officially “non-violent” ANC from the mass-murdering communist regime in Beijing. The original draft also reveals the fact that even Mandela acknowledged that the anti-communist white-led Apartheid government had not isolated, beaten, tortured, or killed a single political detainee until the murderous communist bombing campaigns began in late 1961. Countless innocent civilians were killed in the ANC-SACP terrorist onslaught.

Indeed, to advance communist tyranny, Mandela was more than willing to use violence, as other scrubbed sections from the original manuscript reveal clearly. For instance, Mandela wrote that he felt “ever more strongly” that South African whites needed another “Isandlwana,” a reference to an 1879 battle in which Zulu warriors slaughtered over 1,300 British troops. Incredibly, he seemed to glorify murder and mayhem, writing that soon, “the sweet air will smell of gunfire, elegant buildings will crash down and streets will be splashed with blood.”

Even more alarming, perhaps, is Mandela’s open endorsement of violence against those who opposed his communist revolution — even fellow black Africans, many thousands of whom were tortured and executed by the ANC for standing in the way of Soviet-backed revolution. “If force will advance [the struggle], then it must be used whether or not the majority agrees with us,” Mandela wrote in the original, a notion that analysts compared to Stalinism.

In the published version, however, the sanitized autobiography suggests that violence and coercion are only acceptable when a minority is standing in the way. “A minority should not be able to frustrate the will of the majority,” reads the book published in 1994, essentially the opposite of what Mandela actually wrote while in prison.

Nearly all of the most damning sections of Mandela’s manuscript were conveniently, but not surprisingly, scrubbed from the version of the book that was actually published in 1994. The “ghostwriter” who oversaw the historic deception was then-Time magazine "journalist" Rick Stengel, who, also not surprisingly, currently serves as undersecretary for public diplomacy in the Obama administration.

The ghostwriter-turned-Obama official has refused to comment so far on his deception when contacted by a journalist and researcher — also not surprising considering the staggering effect that the deception had. If Americans and Westerners had known the truth at the time, history certainly would have been very different.

Indeed, the sanitized and deceptive version of Long Walk to Freedom helped to transform Mandela in the public mind from a convicted communist terrorist into a “political prisoner” and a global icon adored worldwide as a symbol of non-violent resistance. In reality, of course, Mandela could have walked out of prison simply by renouncing violence. He refused.

The Hollywood propaganda movie by the same name, based on the bogus book and released last year, helped accelerate the deification of Mandela as a larger-than-life hero peacefully standing against racist oppression. The wild transformation was so thorough that after Mandela’s death, Obama even went to South Africa and compared the communist revolutionary to America’s Founding Fathers.

Early this year, though, the long-missing original manuscript was finally released by the “Nelson Mandela Centre of Memory,” which critics say has played a key role in the Orwellian rewriting of South African history. Unsurprisingly, the Western establishment media, which could not shower enough praises on Mandela over a period of decades, culminating in thousands of worshipful but factually challenged obituaries worldwide late last year, refused to mention the explosive revelations. There has been almost complete silence surrounding Mandela’s now-proven Communist Party leadership, too.

At least one man, though, did highlight the new revelations. Writing in the U.K. Spectator, Afrikaner journalist Rian Malan, who opposed Apartheid, helped blow the lid off of the scrubbed quotes. “By day, he was or pretended to be a moderate democrat, fighting to free his people in the name of values all humans held sacred,” Malan wrote in comparing Mandela’s ghostwritten autobiography to the version that the revolutionary actually wrote while in prison. “But by night he donned the cloak and dagger and became a leader of a fanatical sect known for its attachment to the totalitarian Soviet ideal.”

Other analysts who struggled against Apartheid also had some comments about the revelations. South African activist Sonia Hruska, a former consultant to the Mandela administration who now lives in the United States and works to raise awareness about the grim reality of her homeland and its government, has known something was amiss for many years. “Give credit where credit is due, the ANC played the Mandela card outstanding with the help of the Western liberal community,” she told The New American.

“They were able to hide the dark side, burning their own people and planting bombs to kill innocent civilians, while flaunting the saintly Mandela character,” she continued. “Notwithstanding that he personally gave the orders for the bombings, I doubt if we will ever know how much he was involved with necklacing. One thing is for certain, there is no evidence that he condemned it, neither publicly nor privately.” Necklacing, of course, is the barbaric torture-execution tactic pioneered by the ANC against fellow blacks involving the burning of a gasoline-filled tire around a victim’s neck.

Nelson Mandela, Hruska continued, was a committed communist and even wrote the essay “How to be a good communist.” “The latest surfaced manuscript confirms that inherently, he was not non-violent as he was portrayed so affectionately by the Western media and liberals,” she said. “For 20 years he refused to denounce the brutal murders of the very people he represented, and for the 20 years after the ANC took power, he never condemned the rise of the violent society created by the ANC.”

Another South African working to expose the truth, Harry Booyens, Ph.D., wrote a massive book with meticulous documentation shattering myths about his homeland entitled AmaBhulu — The Birth and Death of the Second America. “In few areas of human endeavor is the selective blindness and deafness of Western media as vividly clear as in the matter of their treatment of Rolihlahla Mandela,” Booyens wrote in his book.

In an e-mail to The New American, Dr. Booyens notes that during his trial, Mandela told the court he was not a communist — and the Western press believed it. “At this point I believe that if Mandela told the New York Times that the Moon was made of cheese, that much quoted newspaper would insist on challenging all the scientists on the planet as to the edible nature of that satellite,” Booyens said, echoing widespread concerns about the Western media’s well-documented failings and deception. The Times, in particular, has a long and sordid history of concealing communist atrocities. Booyens also noted that the press in the West generally continues to help the ANC conceal its crimes, with Mandela’s party seeming not to even care about incriminating itself anymore.

Four Americans in particular, though, were “positioned at the logical root of the entire South African disaster,” Booyens said. Among them: Robert Kennedy, who “inappropriately linked South Africa’s problems of Clashing Civilizations with America's Civil Rights and Jim Crow issues;” Sen. Dick Clark, who got an amendment passed that “completely destabilized the Southern African situation;” and Randall Robinson, “who built up Desmond Tutu to a level of Godlike status in the United States and inflamed the U.S. public opinion until the U.S. effectively declared economic war on South Africa.”

The final key operative, he said, was Richard Stengel, the current senior-level Obama official who “massaged” Mandela’s biography “to make it palatable to Americans and expunge Mandela's real convictions on and leadership in matters of Communism.” Stengel, Booyens continued, “must have known full well those convictions would have sunk both the book and Mandela like a lead balloon. This gave the murderous live-human-torching ANC a ‘messianic’ figurehead and made them somehow acceptable to America.”

See here, here and here

“Perhaps Stengel thought he was doing some or other great deed, but what he did was to legitimize a terrorist organization to Americans,” Booyens continued, linking Stengel’s machinations to the overlooking of the U.S. government’s “correct” designation of Mandela and the ANC as terrorists, where they remained until 2008. “Mandela is dead. The ANC is not. The broken bodies of more than 3,000 dead white farmers testify to this”».

Alex Newman («Original Mandela Autobiography Advocates Violence, Communism», in The New American, 28 April 2014).

«At the December 10 memorial for Nelson Mandela, President Obama joined a sordid lineup of heads of state — a UN-style dictators’ club — to lavish unstinted praise and adulation upon the former president of South Africa, who died on December 5. In his eulogy, President Obama compared Mandela to America’s Founding Fathers and referred to him as “a giant of history” and “the great liberator,” invoking Mandela’s name as an inspiration for the advancement of freedom, justice, equality, and human rights throughout the world.

However, as The New American has reported for decades, the carefully constructed sainted image of Mandela is marred by a host of facts and overwhelming documentary evidence, to wit:

• Mandela was, throughout his entire adult career, not only an underground member of the violent, Soviet-directed South African Communist Party, but was also a top leader, a member of the Central Committee of the SACP.

• Mandela worked closely for decades with Joe Slovo, head of the SACP (and a Soviet KGB colonel) to help the Reds take control of the African National Congress and purge it of all leaders who opposed the SACP’s Soviet ties and Communist terrorist tactics [...].

• Mandela and Slovo were appointed by the SACP as the co-leaders of Umkhonto we Sizwe, the Communist-created terrorist group that viciously tortured and murdered thousands of black South Africans, as well as whites, often employing the ANC’s signature “necklace” method of terror/torture/murder.

• Mandela steadfastly denied, time after time over the decades, his membership in the SACP and Umkhonto we Sizwe, but on the day after his death, the SACP released a statement acknowledging that he had been a top SACP leader all along. This admission is also an admission that Mandela was a lifelong liar.

• Those who argue that the SACP/Umkhonto we Sizwe ties belong to an earlier, younger Mandela and shouldn’t reflect on his later, wiser years, must deal with the facts of his continued involvement in and support for the organizations to the end of his days, and the video of him singing the Umkhonto we Sizwe anthem, a genocide song used to stir up black mobs to kill whites.

Not surprisingly, the Mandela memorial attracted many of the world’s worst oppressors, all of whom joined President Obama in posturing for “peace,” “justice,” “freedom,” and “democracy.”

President Obama went out of his way to meet and shake hands with Cuban Communist dictator Raul Castro, who, together with his more infamous brother Fidel, has ruled the island prison-state with an iron fist, since 1959. Reportedly, the meet-up was scripted to appear as a chance encounter at the memorial, but had been carefully choreographed as part of an overture by the Obama administration to begin normalization of U.S.-Cuba relations.

Far less known than Castro, but now casting a much larger shadow, as leader of the most populous nation in Latin America, with the largest economy, is Brazil’s President Dilma Rousseff a lifelong communist activist, who was actually a “most wanted” terrorist in her youth (much like President Obama’s friends Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, the unrepentant Weather Underground terrorists). [...].

Like Mandela, Rousseff’s radicalism was not merely a youthful indiscretion; she continues on the same path, as this recent Brazilian news video of her addressing a large Communist gathering demonstrates — on a stage flanked by giant portraits of Marx and Lenin and festooned with flags and symbols sporting the communist hammer and sickle. She is also a longtime member and participant in the notorious Sao Paulo Forum, an annual gathering of dictators and terrorist leaders. Among the many communist-style programs she has foisted on Brazil is the criminal, forced removal (at gunpoint, using the military) of whole towns and thousands of Brazilians from their ancestral homes in the name of environmental “sustainability.”

By embracing and kissing Rousseff at the memorial — an image that not only flashed around the planet but was used extensively by the pro-Rouseff media in Brazil — President Obama gave the impression that the most powerful nation in the world fully supports her pro-communist regime.

Among the many other notables at the memorial, whose presence and prominence belied the much-stated claims of eulogists’ commitments to peace, justice and liberty, were (to name only a few):

• Mahmoud Abbas, successor to Yasser Arafat as head of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) terrorist group and president of the Palestinian National Authority since 2005.

Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat with Soviet Union leader Leonid Brezhnev.

• Li Yuanchao, vice president of Communist China.

• Jacob Zuma, South Africa’s own president, whose lifelong involvement in the terrorist SACP/ANC/ Umkhonto we Sizwe is accented by a recent video of him leading a mob in a vicious song that urges the murder of white (Boer) South Africans».

William F. Jasper («Obama: Schmoozing With Terrorists and Tyrants at Mandela Memorial», in The New American, 18 December 2013).

«The establishment media this week has engaged in a grotesque spectacle surrounding the death of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela on Monday at age 81. Instead of being honest, much of the press has been idolizing as a hero the mass-murdering communist terrorist infamous for, among other crimes, ordering the murder and savage torture of numerous victims, including innocent children. Most of her victims were blacks who opposed or were believed to oppose her totalitarian agenda. Ruthless and unrepentant until the end, she refused to even apologize.

One of her more prominent victims, 14-year-old Stompie Sepei, was brutally tortured for days and finally slaughtered by having his throat slit with gardening tools, all on Winnie's orders. South African Communist Party leader Nelson Mandela's ex-wife also was an enthusiastic supporter of “necklacing,” which involves putting a tire soaked in gasoline around a victim's neck, and then lighting it on fire. The slow, agonizing torture is one of the most horrendous ways to murder people known to man.

But the disgraceful Western media seemed not to notice or care. Instead, much of the press lionized her as the “Mother of the Nation” (a term her PR team apparently invented and popularized), an “anti-Apartheid activist,” and a “hero” who waged a “heroic struggle” against injustice. When her crimes were mentioned at all, they were often downplayed as justified, youthful indiscretions that were simply a logical response to crimes by the apartheid (which means separate development) government. Her well-documented adultery and fraud against poor people were hardly mentioned.

Very little was written in the eulogies and obituaries for Winnie about her fervent support for barbaric forms of torture, either. But it was not for lack of documentation. In fact, she was infamous for endorsing “necklacing” of those who opposed the Soviet-controlled African National Congress and its efforts to impose communist tyranny on South Africa. “Together, hand-in-hand with our sticks of matches, with our necklaces we shall liberate this country,” Winnie declared in comments that were caught on tape.

Instead of focusing on her crimes, much of the Western media focused on her alleged saintliness. “She kept the memory of her imprisoned husband Nelson Mandela alive during his years on Robben Island and helped give the struggle for justice in South Africa one its most recognizable faces,” the family said in a statement quoted by major media outlets all over the world. “She dedicated most of her adult life to the cause of the people and for this was known far and wide as the Mother Of The Nation.”

The truth, though, is far less benign. In fact, even the far-left New York Times, an establishment mouthpiece with a well-deserved reputation for hiding communist crimes stretching back to Walter Duranty's cover-up of the barbarous Soviet genocide of Ukrainians, has documented the savagery of Winnie Mandela. In a 1997 article that has largely gone down the memory hole, the Times reported on her role in the kidnapping, beating, torture, and eventual murder of a young child — one of many victims abducted, tortured, and murdered on Winnie's direct orders.

Her chief bodyguard in the late 1980s, Jerry Richardson, admitted to some of the horrors he was ordered to participate in by his boss. “My hands are full of blood today because I would be instructed to kill and I would do like I was told,” Richardson explained to South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) set up after whites voted to surrender political power, referring to Winnie as “mommy.” Some of the victims' families had to step out, with tears filling their eyes.

Especially horrific was Richardson's description of the 1989 torture and murder he perpetrated against 14-year-old Stompie Sepei. The young boy was an anti-government activist associated with Winnie and the communist-controlled African National Congress, at least until he came under suspicion of being a “spy” for police. Then, according to testimony by Richardson and others, Winnie ordered that he be abducted, brutally beaten, tortured, and eventually, executed like livestock.

See here

“I slaughtered him like a goat,” testified Richardson, who was also the “coach” of Winnie's “soccer team.” According to Richardson, described as one of Winnie's “closest confidantes,” Winnie personally participated in the barbaric torture of the young boy, which involved beatings, whippings, and other horrors. She reportedly sang joyfully as the boy writhed in horrifying pain. The actual killing, performed by slitting the boy's throat with pruning shears, took place in Noordgesig in Soweto, near a railway and Winnie's home.

Richardson remembered well how it happened. “I put the shears through Stompie's neck. They went to the back,” he testified. “It was a stabbing motion, not a cutting motion.” Other members of Winnie's gang corroborated the testimony, and Winnie herself was eventually convicted for her role in the kidnapping — though she escaped the murder charges thanks to friends in high places and the need to preserve her ex-husband's image.

Among her many crimes, Winnie controlled a gang of mass-murdering terrorists euphemistically disguised as the “Mandela United Football Club.” This fake “football” team would drive around Soweto kidnapping ANC opponents and alleged collaborators with the government. The victims would be shoved into Winnie's van and taken to her luxurious mansion, where they were beaten, tortured, and oftentimes slaughtered as her associates sang songs, drank brandy, and danced. Numerous eye witnesses have testified to her cruel savagery.

Winnie also refused to apologize to the victims of her murders, her fraud, her torture — or to the families of her victims. “I am not sorry. I will never be sorry,” she declared, defiantly. “I would do everything I did again if I had to. Everything.” Presumably that includes torturing and ordering the murder of young Stompie and other black children.

And yet, much of the Western press celebrated the mass-murdering butcher as a hero. The far-left U.K. Guardian, for example, which specializes in deceiving readers and promoting everything from globalism to climate alarmism, helped lead the pack in downplaying Winnie's savagery. In a grotesque screed by Guardian columnist Afua Hirsch, the argument was essentially that brutally murdering women and children is simply the price that had to be payed to dismantle a “system of racial supremacy.”

Basically, she argued that some British heroes also waged war — no mention of the fact that these battles were generally fought against other armies and did not involve slaughtering or torturing innocent children — and so Winnie's barbarism should be overlooked. Anyone who disagrees with her that torture and murder of children are necessary to overthrow a government is a white supremacist, she argued. Incredibly, it seems Hirsch and the Guardian actually expect supposedly civilized people to believe that.

Even American race hustlers celebrated the brutal revolutionary. “She was the face and voice of the movement,” Jesse Jackson, a far-left race profiteer, was quoted as saying by USA Today, America's largest newspaper by circulation. “It was her voice and her courage and her risk that kept them alive for those years.” USA Today also claimed Winnie was “tortured,” and yet the only example cited in any media report was an instance where she allegedly was not given a sanitary pad while in prison for a short time for her involvement in communist terrorism.

Some especially dishonest media reports, such as a eulogy published by the far-left Washington Post, did not even mention that Stompie was brutally murdered. Instead, the writer merely dismisses critics and casually says that she was “convicted of kidnapping and assaulting a young activist named Stompie Seipei.” The testimony implicating her in ordering his savage murder was not even alluded to, much less confronted honestly. The Post also falsely claimed she was a “hero to black South Africans.” That is simply untrue — even some of her murderous “comrades” in the “struggle” have distanced themselves publicly from her evil.

More than a few media outlets that at least acknowledged the “controversies” sounded a lot like apologists for Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and other mass-murderers — “at least Hitler built great highways,” as some Nazi apologists still claim today. While the pro-Winnie reports sometimes made reference to the murders and the torture of children, they typically tried to find some allegedly redeeming qualities and justifications to provide “balance.”

Some media outlets did at least offer some real balance to the pathetic fawning masquerading as journalism that appeared in so many publications. “She was a mother and a monster, a martyr and a tyrant, a rampaging megalomaniac posing as a selfless defender of the poor and the helpless,” wrote Andrew Kenny on the U.K. Spectator, adding that the “endless panegyrics to her saintliness and self-sacrifice are difficult to stomach.”

A number of other British outlets were far more honest in their assessment than most of the U.S. press. The U.K. Daily Mail, which sometimes leans conservative, published one of the few honest reviews of Winnie's life. “Winnie Mandela was an odious, toxic individual who continued to preach hatred rather than reconciliation right up to the end of her life,” wrote Andrew Malone, adding that she supported stealing the property of white people. “In truth, she was a bitter woman consumed by hate who increasingly was turning to violence and murder, living off her husband’s name and ruthlessly protecting her own interests financially.”

Malone, who was on the ground in South Africa during much of the chaos, also recounted the story of Lolo, another child kidnapped and “disappeared” by Winnie and her goons. “‘Winnie Mandela appeared outside my home in a vehicle with Lolo,’ Sono [the boy’s father, told me [Malone, in an interview]. ‘Lolo was bleeding and badly bruised. She accused him of being a police informer, just because he had been taken in for questioning. I begged, I pleaded, for Lolo’s life. She said the movement would decide what to do with him and that he was a dog. They drove off. I have never seen my son again.’”

Unfortunately, Nelson Mandela, who lied all his life about his membership and even leadership role in the Soviet-controlled South African Communist Party, was similarly glorified by the dishonest Western media both before and after his death. Virtually nothing has been said in the establishment press about the real Mandela. But even his own words, in a manuscript of his auto-biography before it was sanitized and published, exposed him as a violent communist willing to use murder and terror to enslave his fellow human beings under a Soviet-backed dictatorship of the proletariat.

Among other crimes, Nelson Mandela founded and led the brutal terrorist wing of the ANC known as Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), which slaughtered thousands of innocent people — mostly black people, but also many white women and children in bombings of restaurants, farm roads, shopping malls, and more. The so-called Spear of the Nation, as it was known, became infamous for mass murder, torture, bombings, sabotage, terrorism, and more. It was almost universally recognized as a terrorist group outside of mass-murdering communist regimes, landing Mandela on the official U.S. terrorist list until he was formally removed in 2008.

Today, the fruits of the revolution aided and abetted by the Mandelas are becoming impossible to ignore. The so-called rainbow nation — really an unnatural amalgamation of myriad nations with different cultures, beliefs, languages, and histories — is literally imploding in on itself. Violence, poverty, disease, and terror are out of control. Lifespans have plummeted by more than a decade since the ANC and the communists took over. The threat of genocide is now very real, too. Indeed, top South African leaders, including the recently departed president, openly sing songs advocating the extermination of minorities amid a wave of unfathomably barbaric slaughters targeting Christian Afrikaner farmers. Multiple polls of South Africans have found that most people, including blacks, believe their lives were better even under the loathed apartheid regime.

Now, as the “Second Phase” of the communist revolution gets underway, the Communist-controlled ANC regime is plotting to steal land from farmers, threatening to turn the once-prosperous first world nation into another Zimbabwe-style basket case. Hatred is exploding. Starvation and mass killings may well follow. It is definitely going to get worse. And the dishonest Western media, along with the globalist establishment behind it, will deserve much of the blame».

"Saint" Mandela? Not So Fast!

President Barack Obama has compared him to George Washington. MSNBC’s Chris Matthews heralded him as “perhaps the world’s greatest hero.”

The Las Vegas Guardian Express dispensed with the “perhaps,” declaring in headline: “Nelson Mandela World’s Greatest Hero.”

Others have christened him “the greatest man of the 20th century.” Many revere him as “the savior” of South Africa. School children worldwide read books, write essays and sing songs about him, and watch movies extolling his virtues and heroic accomplishments.

As we write, the 94-year-old Mandela has been hovering near death for days, the subject of hourly news updates and the beneficiary of tearful prayer vigils worldwide. With the announcement of his death, the eulogies will soon be sounding and in his honor innumerable streets, highways, schools, stadiums, parks, and public buildings will be renamed.

For the past three decades, Nelson Mandela has been swathed in global media adulation unlike any other human being in history. No pope, president, king, war hero, movie star, or rock star can boast of having been the beneficiary of such undiluted, unalloyed, and unbroken acclaim. It is common for totalitarian dictators to employ their state-controlled media to create a worshipful cult of personality about themselves — Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Fidel Castro, Kim Il-sung — but outside of their countries there are usually journalists and media organs that will report their crimes, failings, and misdeeds. Mandela has not had to worry about dirty laundry; he is the first individual to achieve a near-universal cult of personality on the global level, thanks entirely to the unparalleled glorification campaign bestowed upon him by the major media in the United States and Europe.

As we reported in 1990 regarding his world tour that year, following his release from prison, his media saturation coverage (and infatuation coverage) was unprecedented — and has not been matched by anyone since. He has received the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom from the United States, the Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union, and numerous other honors from countries, universities, and institutions.

What is it about Nelson Mandela the man that justifies this global adoration? To be sure, his mien contributes; he is tall, dignified, and statesman-like in appearance, gracious in public speech, and grandfatherly in tone. He does not exude the radical, self-promotional hucksterism of, say, Al Sharpton, Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe, or the ANC’s current head, Jacob Zuma. And, yes, he served many years in prison, but not merely for opposing injustice and racism, as his legions of hagiographers would have us believe. He was a leader of the African National Congress (ANC), an organization designated a terrorist group by the U.S. State Department and many governments and intelligence agencies. He was also a co-founder of the ANC’s Umkhonto we Sizwe (Spear of the Nation), a militant terrorist group within a terrorist group. He was tried and convicted for his terrorist and subversive activities within those organizations (more on which in a moment).

Countless thousands of genuine prisoners of conscience, who have never done anything more “criminal” than praying, or speaking out against tyranny, are languishing in prisons all across the planet without so much as a peep of protest from the legions of Mandela worshipers and his chorus of media promoters. How many of those praising Mandela as the world’s moral compass have ever heard of Ignatius Cardinal Kung, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Shanghai, who was imprisoned in Communist China for 33 years, most of it overlapping the same period in which Mandela was in prison? Cardinal Kung’s heroic incarceration was in many ways more severe than that faced by Mandela, but no media love-fest awaited him when he was released in 1988. Ditto for Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet, a black Cuban physician who was released from Fidel Castro’s prison system in 2011 after brutal captivity for the “crime” of criticizing the island’s communist regime. But did Nelson Mandela chastise his comrades in Beijing and Havana when he visited there, or did he bring up the plight of the countless political and religious prisoners in their gulags? If so, there is no public record of it, though there is plenty on record of him praising those oppressive regimes.

Mandela: Communist, Terrorist, Liar

This leads us directly to one of the most important issues concerning Nelson Mandela: Was he a Communist with a capital “C,” meaning a disciplined member of the Communist Party, which, in this case means the South African Communist Party (SACP)? In the 1958 treason trial, Nelson Mandela denied being a member of the SACP, a denial he has repeated many times since, and has maintained to the end. His defenders fall into two general categories on this issue, those who believe his denial and those who say, in effect, “So what? What does it matter if he was/is a Communist?”

Those who say they believe his denial must ignore an overwhelming mountain of evidence to the contrary, much of which has been available for decades and much which has only recently come to light from: previously unavailable SACP records; government archives of Communist countries; memoirs and biographies of, and interviews with, SACP and ANC members of the period.

Those who say “So what?” to the question of Mandela’s membership in the SACP must ignore the well established facts that show:

• The SACP was, and remains, a hardcore Marxist-Leninist organization in which all members must pledge unquestioned obedience to the will of the Party, as determined by its Central Committee;

• The SACP took its direction from the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU), and, as such, was an agent of a hostile foreign power;

• SACP members, including Mandela, secretly took control of the ANC, pushing aside and sabotaging ANC leaders committed to reform and change through peaceful, political means;

• ANC and its terrorist arm, Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), which was also controlled by the SACP, were trained in Soviet Russia and Red China, or in Communist “Frontline States” — Zambia, Angola, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe — by Soviet, Chinese, East German, Cuban, Czech, and other Communist instructors;

• The SACP-controlled ANC and MK exploited the conditions of apartheid, racism and colonialism not to help South African blacks, but to further the objectives of the Soviet Union and the world Communist conspiracy;

• The SACP-controlled ANC and MK used the Communist-provided training and arms to direct their terror, torture, and murder against South Africa’s black majority even more often than against the white minority;

• If Mandela was not only a Communist Party member, but also a top SACP leader — which the evidence irresistibly shows he was — then he is not only a colossal and persistent liar, but he is all the more culpable in the innumerable acts of terror, torture, and murder committed by ANC mobs and MK cadres over the past several decades;

• Mandela has bequeathed South Africa a one-party state ruled by the increasingly tyrannical and kleptocratic ANC/SACP, which is leading the country down the path toward economic destruction, record-level violent crime, chaos, and genocide.

The coming wave of terror and genocide

The last point mentioned above is especially relevant, since the ostensible purpose of the ANC/SACP revolution was to ameliorate the plight of the disadvantaged black population. Instead, they are transforming what was by far the most prosperous state in Africa (and the one to which black Africans were fleeing to escape Red/black oppression, despite South Africa’s apartheid system then in place) into a corrupt despotism with: squashing of dissent; looting of the treasury by top government officials; sky-high unemployment; increasing poverty and homelessness; some of the world’s highest rates of murder, rape, robbery, kidnapping, car-jacking; and the world’s highest HIV/AIDS infection rates.

Resolving the issue of Mandela’s role in the SACP is all the more important when viewed in its proper historical context, which is in the context of the Cold War and the Soviet’s aggressive campaigns in the Third World through “wars of national liberation.” During that period the Communists were killing tens of millions of their own subjects in what Professor R. J. Rummel calls “democide,” or mass murder by government.

Dr. Rummel, who has painstakingly catalogued the top 15 of the mega-murderer regimes, puts the number of their victims during the 20th century at a conservative estimate of more than 151 million — and that was only up to 1987. The vast majority of those were slaughtered by Communist regimes that claimed to be the forces of “liberation.” A significant portion of that slaughter took place in Africa by those same forces of liberation. And it hasn’t ended. In fact, as we have reported, the stark ominous signs, as cited by genocide experts, are that the ANC is preparing to unleash a Communist-style genocide campaign in the “Rainbow Nation” against the remaining white population (see here and here) that will surely also be directed against Indians, Chinese, and millions of blacks.

The genocide campaign against white South Africans has already been underway for several years, but has not yet reached the all-out intensity of the slaughter stages witnessed in Rwanda, Burundi, or Sierra Leone. But that time may be coming soon, and if it does, Nelson Mandela will have helped to launch it. Chilling video footage of Mandela singing an ANC/MK genocide song about killing whites belies the sainted image.

Similarly, in another stunning video, Mandela’s longtime comrade in the ANC and the SACP (and current president of South Africa) Jacob Zuma, sings “Kill the Boer,” meaning kill the white farmer. Even more chilling than the words of the murderous song is the near frenzied behavior it stirs up in many of the assembled mob members. This is clearly incitement to genocide by the top members of South Africa’s ANC ruling regime, the same individuals who incessantly pose as peace advocates. (See both of the videos imbedded at the bottom of this article.)

Yet, the "hate speech" police in our media, who are quick to pounce on any real or fabricated racial or "homophobic" gaffe by politicians, celebrities, or common citizens, have hypocritically ignored the Mandela/Zuma genocide endorsements — or have attempted to exonerate them of any malice with lame excuses about the songs being mere cultural/political slogans.

But with the fires, violence, and chaos already burning in South Africa, these actions by the ANC's most revered leaders are pouring gasoline on the fire. They are stoking a genocidal inferno. We have already seen what this will look like and it is horrible beyond the ability of words to convey. Videos of the ANC’s “necklacing” torture/executions have documented the kind of grotesque “justice” that is meted out by the comrades and minions of Mandela, Mbeki, and Zuma. In this unutterably vicious method of terror/murder the victim is seized by a howling mob, beaten, stabbed, stoned, and then, while still alive, has a tire soaked in petrol placed around his/her neck and set ablaze. It can take agonizing minutes for the unfortunate victim to die. (See videos of necklacing here and here.)

Hundreds of victims, the vast majority of whom were black, were killed this way by ANC-led lynch mobs. Nelson Mandela’s second wife, Winnie Mandela, was caught on video infamously shouting to a huge mob: “With our boxes of matches and our necklaces we shall liberate this country!" Despite this and the fact that she was convicted in court in the torture/murder of 14-year-old Stompie Moeketsi and found by the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission to be guilty in the kidnapping, torture, and murder of numerous men, women, and children, Winnie Mandela is free as a bird and still sits on the ANC’s Executive Committee. If Nelson Mandela and Jacob Zuma have any “moral authority,” it has not evidenced itself in the form of condemning and removing this murderess from the ANC’s highest body.

Necklacing is one of the ANC’s enduring “gifts” to humanity; it has been exported to Haiti, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Mexico, and many other countries. And, over the past couple of years, many news stories from South Africa report on its revival there.

Overwhelming evidence: guilty beyond reasonable doubt

The evidence that Nelson Mandela was a member of the South African Communist Party is so enormous that we will be able to detail only a tiny fraction of it. Dr. Henry R. Pike solidly established the record on this matter in 1985 with his 600-page monumental work, A History of Communism in South Africa, which is massively documented with many photographs and reproductions of official court records and SACP, ANC, and MK documents.

Important new evidence has been made available since 2012, with the publication of historian Stephen Ellis’ extraordinary book, External Mission: The ANC in Exile, 1960-1990. Dr. Ellis, a professor based at the Free University of Amsterdam is no conservative and no apologist for apartheid; he is a former researcher for Amnesty International and was a researcher on the Mandela-appointed Truth and Reconciliation Commission in South Africa. In fact, he seems to bend over backwards to put the best slant possible on Mandela’s SACP involvement. Nevertheless, the facts speak for themselves — and they are damning. (For articles on and reviews of Dr. Ellis’ book see The New American here and The Telegraph (U.K.) here. A lengthy abstract of an article by Ellis surveying much of the material in External Mission is available here.

In addition, we now have many admissions against interest from interviews and articles over the past decade in the official Communist Party press and in the books and articles of Vladimir Shubin, a Soviet official who was stationed in South Africa for many years and played a key role in the Kremlin’s policies vis a vis South Africa and, more specifically, its aid to and direction of the SACP and the ANC.

In his book, ANC: A View from Moscow (Bellville, South Africa: Mayibuye, 1999), although Shubin is careful to still put the Kremlin spin on his revelations, he nonetheless confirms much of what anti-communist critics had long claimed (and which the so-called intellectuals and media mavens had long scorned), as well as providing details not previously in the public domain.

Here is a brief sampling of the mountainous record documenting Mandela’s long, conspiratorial role in the South African Communist Party:

• Among the evidence uncovered recently by Prof. Ellis are the official minutes of a secret 1982 SACP meeting at which veteran Party leader John Pule Motshabi explains to the comrades that Mandela has been a (secret) SACP member for two decades;

• Rowley Israel Arenstein, a lawyer and leading SACP member since the 1930s, said that Mandela was chosen by the SACP to create Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK), and Mandela was the SACP’s main instrument in “hijacking” the ANC and marginalizing its longtime leader and president Albert Lithuli, an opponent of the SACP’s program of “liberation” through armed struggle.

• During the Rivonia Trial (October 1963-June 1964), Bruno Motolo, a black member of SACP, ANC and MK, provided devastating testimony of Mandela’s involvement in all three groups. Despite death threats, he later provided even more details in his memoir, Umkhonto we Sizwe: The Road to the Left;

• Other prominent SACP members that have publicly identified Mandela as a fellow Communist include Paul Trewhela,3 Joe Matthews, Hilda Bernstein and Brian Bunting;

• Paul Trewhela, an SACP member who was imprisoned (1964-1967) for his communist activities, and more recently assisted Prof. Ellis in his research in the archives of the Stasi (the KGB’s East German subsidiary), has said: “Mandela was indeed a member of the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party.”

• During the Rivonia Trial, more than 10 documents in Mandela’s handwriting were introduced into evidence, totaling hundreds of pages. One, entitled, “How to be a good communist,” stated: “Under communist rule, South Africa will become a land of milk and honey… In our country the struggle of the oppressed masses is led by the South African Communist Party and inspired by its policies.” He also wrote: “The people of South Africa, led by the South African Communist Party, will destroy capitalist society and build in its place socialism.”

• Mandela’s Rivonia documents also declared that “traitors and informers should be ruthlessly eliminated,” and he recommended “cutting off their noses” — among other barbarities — a tactic he had adopted from Algeria’s communist FLN terrorists and which he put into practice by MK;

• Mandela did not deny writing the damning material, but merely attempted to explain it away by claiming they were notes he had taken down for study purposes;

• A Rivonia trial surprise witness was Gerard Ludi, a top SACP member who was actually an infiltrator, Agent Q-018, for the Special Branch of the South African Police. Ludi provided detailed incriminatory evidence on the SACP’s leadership and illegal activities. He identified Mandela as “a top man in the central committee of the underground communist party.” Subsequent revelations have proven the reliability of Ludi’s testimony.

• In the category of a picture being worth a thousand words, one of the most striking images of Mandela is of him standing beneath a giant Communist hammer and sickle symbol, side-by-side with Joe Slovo, top leader of the SACP — with both men delivering the communist clenched fist salute. Mandela declared: “I salute the South African Communist Party for its sterling contribution to the struggle for democracy.” It is worthy of note that this occurred not once, but many times, as Mandela and Slovo toured South Africa;

• Comrade Slovo, a Lithuanian-born Communist and a colonel in the Soviet KGB, was for decades one of Mandela’s closest associates in the SACP, ANC, and MK;

• Slovo himself stated, in his 1986 propaganda article, "The Sabotage Campaign": “To constitute the High Command [of Umkhonto we Sizwe] the ANC appointed Mandela and the Party appointed me.” Since Mandela was himself a secret top member of the Party, this constitutes a admission that the SACP appointed and thereby controlled MK from the start.

So, Nelson Mandela was not only a SACP member, but a top Communist at that, a member of the ruling Central Committee. And not only that, but he was selected by his fellow top Communists to be the key Red who would launch the Kremlin-approved, Soviet-backed terror war against the South African government.

The ANC had begun as a non-communist organization, and, as a broad-based mass organization, always had many non-communist and anti-communist members. However, they were no match for the rigidly disciplined and conspiratorial SACP, which quickly infiltrated and took control. “The first real alliance between the ANC and the communists,” Dr. Pike wrote, “dates back to 1928, when E.J. Khalile, the ANC general-secretary, was elected to the SACP’s central committee. From this time onward, the alliance continued.” Albeit the alliance went through rocky periods when the non-communists tried to extricate themselves from the communist grip; but they never succeeded.

The new colonial masters: Moscow, Beijing, Havana

Here is a small sampling of the overwhelming evidence of the SACP’s ties to Moscow and Beijing and SACP’s decisive control over the ANC and MK:

• In 1960, top members of the SACP went to Moscow and Beijing for aid. In Beijing they met personally with dictator Mao Zedong and Den Xiaoping, Mao’s assistant and eventual successor. It was only with the blessings of the Kremlin and Mao that the SACP-led ANC launched their armed wing, Umkhonto we Sizwe. The meetings with Mao and Deng had not been public knowledge until revealed by Dr. Ellis’ research;

• Bartholomew Hlapane, a former member of the SACP Central Committee, testified in court: “All policy-making in the ANC was first discussed by the Central Committee of the Communist Party.” He also stated: “Umkhonto we Sizwe’s policy was formulated by the communist party and the organization received its instructions from this party.” For this and other testimony Hlapane and his wife were brutally murdered and their daughter shot and left paralyzed;

• In 1982, Jorge da Costa, a personal friend of Joe Slovo and the head of security for Communist Mozambique’s dictator Samora Machel, defected to South Africa, bringing irrefutable proof of the Soviet/SACP/ANC connection. Regarding the SACP’s Slovo, da Costa said: “There is no doubt in my mind that Slovo is behind every operation launched by the ANC against South Africa. He has a brilliant mind and is one of the best-informed people about this country.”;

• SACP general secretary Joe Slovo, a KGB colonel, was in regular touch with fellow KGB agents, such as Vasily Solodovnikov, the Russian ambassador to Zambia, through which Moscow directives were channeled to the SACP/ANC/MK;

• The World Peace Council, a KGB-directed international communist front organization has been one of the ANC’s most durable allies and can claim much of the credit for organizing the decades-long “Free Mandela” media campaign that resulted in his release from prison;

• In his 2003 memoir, Nothing But the Truth: Behind the ANC’s Struggle Politics, SACP leader Benjamin Turok recalled “how easy it was for a small group like ours to exert much influence in the mass movement without giving away our existence.”

• In They Were Part of Us and We Were Part of Them: The ANC in Mozambique from 1976 to 1990, published in 2008, veteran ANC members reminisce on their experience. Among the many nuggets is an interview with Franny Rabkin and Ronnie Ntuli which contains this admission: Franny: “For us: We were Communists, and we were ANC.” Ronnie: “And so was everyone else.”

• Soviet official Vladimir Shubin wrote: “The Russian press has calculated that from 1963-1991, 1,501 ANC activists were trained in Soviet military institutions.” Thousands more were trained in the Frontline States. Communist veteran Gerald Horne, stated in Political Affairs, the official journal of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA): “There can be no doubt that the direct involvement of Soviet officers helped to raise the level of combat readiness of ANC armed units and, especially, of the organizers of the armed underground.”

• Mandela passed on control over the ANC and South Africa to Thabo Mbeki, his longtime comrade and a “former” SACP member. Mbeki subsequently lost out in a power struggle with another Mandela comrade and prison mate, Jacob Zuma, also a “former” SACP member, who is accelerating the ANC’s destructive policies as the current president of South Africa.

• Zuma has continued the Tripartite Alliance, the formal agreement among the ANC, SACP and COSATU, which guarantees that the SACP and the Communist-dominated COSATU will back the ANC as the Communist-run front group that runs South Africa.

• In 1998, at age 80, Mandela married for the third time, to Graca Machel, the widow of Mandela’s longtime ally, Samora Machel, the ruthless Communist dictator of the People’s Republic of Mozambique. Graca was a longtime member of FRELIMO, the communist terrorist organization run by her husband that took control of Mozambique in 1975. For more than a decade, she was a partner in Samora Machel’s vicious reign of murder and torture of men, women, and children, including even many of his FRELIMO comrades whom he turned against.

Media propagandists unfazed by the evidence

Again, we have barely scratched the surface. But the enormity of the damning evidence notwithstanding, the doyens of the Establishment chattering classes continue to sing the same pro-ANC, pro-Mandela rhapsodies and offer the same lame excuses. In a recent article in the New York Review of Books, Bill Keller, the former New York Times executive editor and the Times’ former bureau chief in Johannesburg, attempts to dismiss the communist commitment of SACP members with the assertion that “Most [SACP] members weren’t all that Communist.” Yes, goes the argument, they were merely a bunch of African nationalists dressing up their rhetoric with some Marxist ideology for effect. That was the argument Keller, the Times and their ilk would drag out time after time during the 1960s, '70s, '80s, and '90s whenever a startling new revelation threatened to make it obvious that the ANC were not freedom fighters but instead a bunch of Kremlin-backed, bloodthirsty, communist thugs. South African author Rian Malan takes Keller to task, pointing out that among the many SACP veterans refuting Keller’s claim is Hilda Bernstein, friend of Slovo and wife of SACP Central Committee member Rusty Bernstein. “Joe and Rusty were hardline Stalinists,” she said in a 2004 interview. “Anything the Soviets did was right. They were very, very pro-Soviet.”

But Keller is unmoved. In a reply to letters to the editor from Malan and former SACP member Paul Trewhala, he dismisses their evidence and that of Prof. Ellis, saying he disagrees “that the alliance with the Communists damns the ANC as a Stalinist front. That is simply Red-baiting nonsense.”

It is virtually axiomatic that no matter how iron-clad the evidence presented, MSM “journalists” such as Keller will see any charges of communist conspiracy as “Red-baiting” and “McCarthyism.” And, conversely, no matter how contrived, flimsy and false the charges by leftists and communists against conservatives, anti-communists, pro-lifers, Christians, Tea Partiers, Birchers, military veterans, etc., the Kellers of the Fourth Estate will rush to give these smears credence. (See here, here, here, and here.)

We witnessed this dynamic in action in South Africa with a cruel vengeance during the 1960s-'90s, as the MSM joined the Communist press, not only in their glorification of the ANC, but also in viciously attacking (or completely ignoring) the moderate South African black leaders, many of whom had far larger constituencies and more legitimate claims to moral authority than Mandela and his ANC comrades. Those moderate leaders included: Zulu Chief Mangosuthu Bethelezi, who is also head of the Inkatha Freedom Party; Tomsanqa Linda, former mayor of Ibhayi township; Nelson Botile, former Mayor of Soweto; Bishop Lekganyane of the Zionist Christian Church; Bishop Isaac Mokoena, leader of the Reformed Independent Church Association, which claims a membership of four and one-half million members; Dr. Elijah Maswanganyi — and many others. Chances are good you never heard of any of them, or that you only heard nasty, negative things about them. But that wasn’t a matter of mere chance; it was according to a plan that was to insure that no serious challengers to Mandela and the ANC/SACP leadership would come to the fore. That same plan continues in place, guaranteeing that the thugs and thieves who are Mandela’s ANC heirs will remain in charge of South Africa (in The New American, 03 July 2013).

Unsung Hero, Genuine Freedom Fighter: Tomsanqa Linda pictured on U.S. Speaking tour. Despite serious dangers to himself and his family, Tomsanqa Linda, the mayor of Ibhayi Township (population 400,000) and president of the Eastern Province Council Association (representing 74 townships with a total population of nearly 14 million) came to America in 1990 for a national speaking and media tour to expose Nelson Mandela and the ANC. In city after city, he preceded by two or three days Nelson and Winnie Mandela’s triumphal tour. Although he was ignored by the national media, he reached millions of Americans with his powerful message through local television and radio news programs and talk shows. He was sponsored on this important national tour by The John Birch Society.

Update: After Nelson Mandela passed away on December 5, 2013, both the South African Communist Party and the African National Congress acknowledged in official statements that Mandela was a high-level member of the South African Communist Party. For an updated article about this admission after decades of denial, click here.
